The D7 Visa is a first essential step towards a temporary residence permit. In essence, the applicant needs to show a fixed monthly stream of income (passive or active).

In terms of passive income, the applicant should consider retirement pensions, real estate properties (rental income), intellectual property royalties or financial assets (with gains above the original cost of the investment), Recently, remote workers or digital nomads have been included in this visa category, by demonstrating that the monthly salary from their work activities exceeds the €705.

As always, the procedure begins with obtaining the Portuguese Tax Identification Number (NIF) and opening a bank account in Portugal, which are essential elements for proof of means of subsistence immediately available in the national territory.
